"Compulsive" Exercise or Adaptive Exercise?
Learn How to Create Your Unique Version of Movement Freedom as a Neurodivergent Person
We all know the traditional recovery advice...
You must stop ALL exercise in ED recovery
You have to disconnect food and movement in your brain
Pacing is an "ED behavior" that must be eliminated
If movement doesn't feel joyful, it's "compulsive"
The problem with these blanket statements? They don't account for your neurodivergent nervous system.
I've always needed lots of movement to regulate myself.
I grew up playing loads of different sports, was always climbing on things, and I was even born bicycle-kicking my legs in the air! đ
During my eating adaptation, my relationship with exercise became very unhealthy. I constantly thought about food & exercise, and every day revolved around my routines.
In ED recovery, I was forced to rest. I was told to "take opposite action" and "surf the urge." But you know what happened? It just made me want to move more.
It wasn't until I learned to distinguish autistic-driven movement preferences from ED-driven exercises urges that I created my unique version of movement freedom.
In this Discovery Talk, you will learn how to create a relationship with movement that works with your neurodivergence rather than against it.

Save your seatIf you've ever been told your movement is "compulsive," that it's "the ED talking," or that you just need to sit down and rest, this talk is for you.
Together, we will cover:
â Why autistic and ADHD people are more likely to struggle with exercise
â Why "compulsive movement" is actually adaptive movement, and how that distinction changes EVERYTHING on the discovery journey
â Why you're not "addicted" to exercise â you've built an identity around it, and identities can be rewritten
â How to channel your neurodivergent energy into a relationship with movement that feels like genuine freedom rather than another set of "recovery rules"
â Practical "invitations for curiosity" that are PDA-affirming strategies to actually IMPLEMENT everything you learn

âI learned so much that I never knew about autism and eating disorders even after years of being in both communities online. Explanations as to why I struggle with certain behaviours and situations, how our brains and bodies work, and techniques to help move away from needing an eating disorder to handle the world. I struggle to justify spending money on myself but Iâm so glad I spent this money. Thank you Livia!â
â Nico, UK
âLivia changed my life. As an autistic person that has ED lived experience, she truly 'gets it' like no one else I worked with before. She understands the unique struggles when autism and eating disorders overlap and has genius insights on challenging the eating disorder while embracing the autism. Her guidance helped me break free from rigid patterns while keeping my need for structure and routine. I learned to trust parts of myself that I had pushed away for years. I finally feel confident about my recovery and I couldnât have done it without her.â
â Bo, UK
âLivia is so well informed and passionate that you will take away priceless and unique insights into the mind and world of someone who has lived with both anorexia and autism and is able to explain how she survived. And more importantly now thrives.â
â Felicity, UK
âYour insights into anorexia and autism have been inspiring and enlightening, providing me with one of the greatest gifts...hope. I especially loved the Invitations for Curiosity. It was so nice to finally have very tangible and actionable steps to compassionately and gently step forward to a life where I could smile a whole lot more. I still have a long way to go in recovery, but I am learning to trust that I can do it! So thank you, truly, for everything you do. Resources for autistic folks with eating disorders are very, very rare and you have greatly filled that missing piece. Thank you, for giving me the best chance I have ever had to experience happiness and peace!â

âAs a coach, Livia is a very thoughtful listener. She really gets it. She has done a lot of research and bridges the gaps in the current knowledge base by adding her own lived experience. She creates a more visceral understanding of how a real autistic person views the world. She doesnât diminish the neurodivergent experience. But her coaching style is very empowering and after every session I left feeling a little lighter and ready to take on my challenges. She lifts me up.â
â Anne, US
âLivia Sara's work is genius and her ability to understand eating disorders, especially when in the mind of an autistic teenager. Words cannot express my gratitude for Livia. I don't know where we would be if we didn't find her. We searched for 2 years to find someone to help us, some one who could shine a light and show us a pathway that would actually work and save our child. We still have some work to do, but with Livia's guidance we move closer every day to my daughter's mental and physical health being restored.â
â Donna, UK
âMy daughter has been in recovery for anorexia for the last four years and was recently diagnosed with autism. I canât tell you how comforting it is to finally have someone understand and validate the struggles our daughter has been through. Livia has helped me to recognize that some of my daughterâs âED behaviorsâ are actually autistic adaptations, and that not all ED recovery follows the same path or responds to the same treatments.â
â Becky, USA
âThank you so much for all your amazing work & support. You truly are one in a million & have such a gifted way of explaining how the creative minds us neurodiverse souls have been blessed with & cursed with all in one. It has been a pleasure for myself & Katie to have been part of such an amazing experience being surrounded with such an honest & powerful group of like minded souls. Thank you so much Liv đ â

âLiv is an exceptional human being and a superlative coach. If you want to understand autism, eating disorders, and yourself she is not only the best but the easiest person to talk to. Wise, compassionate, and driven by respect and love; Liv has essential insights that will help you in your journey wherever you are. I cannot recommend her highly enough.â
â Amy, UK
âWorking with Livia has been such a helpful experience for our family. As a parent, I was at a loss on how to support my son, who is both autistic and battling an eating disorder. Livia not only helped me understand the unique challenges he faces but also provided compassionate, actionable guidance that empowered me as a parent. Her approach is so personalized and neurodivergent-affirming that I could see my son finally feel understood for who he is. I'm beyond grateful for the transformation we've experienced!â
â Rachael, Australia
âIâm not exactly sure what to say, or how to express our gratitude for working with our daughter. It's been amazing to see her grow in confidence, struggle and continue on and finally have words for some of the experiences she has in life. Youâve been amazing and weâre so thankful youâve been such a positive influence on her.â
â Ted, US
âWhat you do and the approach you have is so deeply healing and a true, authentic light in the world of mental health! I feel like you are one of the very, very few authentic and true voices with an open heart and genuine on the real topic of mental health. Thank you so much for all you keep doing, what youâve done for yourself is helpful to others đ«¶đ»đđ»đ€â
